Rave Collections ~ Rave Til Dawn
The Artist performs music from his critically-acclaimed album "Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic," as well as selections from his vault of smash hits and pop classics. Filmed at Paisley Park Studio in Minneapolis, where a multi-piece band, including legendary bass player Larry Graham and members of the Family Stone, join the Artist and his special guests in this spectacular historical event. Songs: Let's Go Crazy, She's Always in My Hair, U Got the Look, Kiss, Jungle Love (Morris Day and the Time), The Bird (Morris Day and the Time), American Woman (Lenny Kravitz), Fly Away (Lenny Kravitz), Get Off, Medley (Rosie Gaines, Mike Scott, Maceo Parker), It's Alright, Everyday People (Cynthia Robinson, Gerry Martini), Higher, Purple Rain, The Christ, Blues Medley (Maceo Parker, Johnny Blackshire), Nothing Compares 2 U, Take Me With U/Raspberry Beret, The Greatest Romance Ever Sold, Baby Knows, Baby I'm a Star, 1999.
Leave it to Prince to put the best music of Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic, his return to major-label status, on a hidden track. That would be No. 18, a.k.a. "Pretty Man." A deep-fried groove and sax by guest Maceo Parker underpin a hilarious mock self-celebration ("I write a check and the bank bounce") that proves the Artist can flow at full power any time he wants to. And whether Rave will prove as durable as 1995's vastly underrated Gold Experience, it's a fine Prince album. Despite his current affiliation with Clive Davis, who returned Carlos Santana to Billboard's No. 1 slot by pairing him prominently with a number of guest stars, Prince employs the likes of Sheryl Crow, Ani DiFranco, and Eve to season his own blend, not to run off with the whole steaming pot. (Just to show who's boss, he includes a funky re-creation of Crow's hit "Everyday Is a Winding Road" that renders the song nearly unrecognizable.) The sounds here, from the Parade-style balladry of "[Eye] Love U, But [Eye] Don't Trust U Anymore" to the frenetic title track, won't surprise longtime followers, but they won't find a lot of reasons to complain, either. --Rickey Wright
2011 tribute to Rock 'n' Roll pioneer Buddy Holly. The set opens with bluesy revivalists the Black Keys tackling "Dearest," and comes to a close with Graham Nash revisiting "Raining In My Heart." In between, the likes of She & Him take on "Oh Boy," Modest Mouse remakes "That'll Be the Day" and Karen Elson, with husband Jack White, refashions "Crying, Waiting, Hoping." Florence + the Machine cover one of Holly's signature songs in "Not Fade Away," and Fiona Apple, largely absent since the release of her last album in 2005, teams up again with Jon Brion for "Every Day." McCartney, long a champion of Holly's work (he produced and hosted tribute film "The Real Buddy Holly Story") sings "It's So Easy."
Rave Tapes is the eighth studio album by Mogwai and their second on Sub Pop. With Rave Tapes, Mogwai's mastery of sound and space is firmly at its apex. The album is a lustrous collection mined from the same quarry as its predecessors, wreathed in painterly textures underpinned by increasingly electronic beats. Mogwai wrote and recorded Rave Tapes at the band's Castle Of Doom studio in Glasgow, Scotland, with Paul Savage, who also worked on their 2011 Sub Pop album, Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will.

AMERICANA PIONEERS’ DEBUT – REISSUED AND EXPANDED! While the members of The Rave-Ups held day jobs in the mail room at A&M Records, they were able to use the label’s studios at night and during lunch breaks to record what would become a genre-defining release. Enlisting the help of producer Stephen Barncard (Grateful Dead’s American Beauty) as well as the legendary pedal-steel player Sneaky Pete Kleinow, Town + Country appeared on the scene in 1985. The album gained enough attention to get the band featured in John Hughes’ classic 1986 film, Pretty In Pink. Sadly, their “Positively Lost Me” didn’t make the soundtrack, and the Fun Stuff Records issued Town + Country fell out of print . Fans of the band (and the film) have been searching for it ever since. Three decades later, it’s finally available again. This reissue of Town + Country features the original 10 songs, plus a whopping 11 previously unissued bonus tracks—including live radio performances recorded at the legendary KCRW, as well as 1986 material co-produced by Steve Berlin (Los Lobos). A detailed historical essay from the band’s Jimmer Podrasky, complimented by numerous unseen photos from the sessions/era, make this not only a document of time + place, but one that helps document a moment in musical history. Town + Country has been gone for far too long. Now, fans can positively find it!

Crystal Fighters' sophomore album, Cave Rave, was written in the Basque hills of Spain, a region that has been integral to Crystal Fighters sound, having greatly inspired the band s debut album Star Of Love. Crystal Fighters then decamped to Los Angeles to record the album with Grammy-nominated producer Justin Meldal-Johnsen (Beck, Air, Paramore). In 1978, radio and retail were engulfed in disco, and it seemed that the momentum wouldn t stop. The year s number one single was Night Fever by the Bee Gees, and their younger brother, Andy Gibb, ruled that summer with his own Shadow Dancing. But, something else was happening in the clubs of Los Angeles. People were dancing, but to a different beat. By May of that year, Doug Fieger, Berton Averre, Prescott Niles and Bruce Gary decided to take their act public. Calling themselves The Knack, they first look, They first took the stage at , of all places, the infamous Whisky a Go-Go on the fabulous Sunset Strip. The date was June 1st, I978. What happened over the following months was that of legend. The Knack sold out clubs all over Los Angeles. Guests like Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Stephen Stills, Eddie Money and The Doors Ray Mankarek joined them on stage-and every record label in the country wanted to sign this phenomenon. The Knack s appeal was a one-two punch; not only did they have great songs, but they were an amazingly tight live band. The Knack s legendary gigs during the summer of 1978 had fans packing clubs and record labels throwing contracts at them. This release is a fantasy compilation of two of those performances; a trip back in time on a ribbon of acetate. For all of you who were not lucky enough to hear them live, raw and unsigned, this is your chance to experience the electric thrill of those days when The Knack was havin a rave-up.

Singer/songwriter/producer/massive hit maker Sia will be releasing her brand new album 1000 FORMS OF FEAR on July 8thon RCA/Monkey Puzzle Records. 1000 FORMS OF FEAR was produced by Greg Kurstin* and recorded at Echo Studio in Los Angeles.
The first single from 1000 FORMS OF FEAR was written by Sia and Jesse Shatkin and produced by her longtime collaborator Greg Kurstin, along with Shatkin. The video for Sia's "Chandelier" has exploded on line with over 6.5 million views in it's first week, and stars an incredibly compelling dance performance by Maddie Zeigler (age 11) of the Lifetime Television show Dance Moms.
Raves Pitchfork of the video and song: "Sia's voice blasts off, the swelling strings propelling her past her contemporaries in the inspirational-pop stratosphere. It's a jaw-dropping vocal performance that's enough to convince you she could have a stadium-touring career of her own. The video is filled with the same irrepressible spirit that colors this song." Time Magazine calls "Chandelier" "the year's most sobering party anthem...a disarming, unforgettable listen."
An astonishingly prolific hit maker and songwriter, Sia has penned several monster hits over the last few years. In 2013 alone, she's crafted songs for pop icons including Rihanna ("Diamonds"), Katy Perry ("Double Rainbow"), Britney Spears ("Perfume"), Beyoncé ("Pretty Hurts") and Celine Dion, as well as working with Diplo, The Weeknd, Kylie Minogue, Angel Haze, and executive producing label mate Brooke Candy's forthcoming album. Sia is also the featured vocalist on some of the most massive hits she has written for others including "Titanium" with David Guetta, "Beautiful Pain" with Eminem, and "Wild Ones" with Flo Rida. Her most recent release is her hit single "Elastic Heart" from "The Hunger Games Soundtrack" with The Weeknd and Diplo (*produced by Diplo, co-produced by Greg Kurstin) which appears on 1000 FORMS OF FEAR. She also served as executive producer of Brooke Candy's EP entitled Opulence and Brooke Candy s forthcoming album.

"James Brown Is Dead" is a song by Dutch electronic dance music duo L.A. Style. It was released in August 1991 as the lead single from their debut album, L.A. Style. The song was a major hit across Europe, reaching number-one in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Spain. The song also reached the top 10 in Australia, Germany, Italy, Sweden, and Switzerland. It also peaked at number 59 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.[
Our American Beat imprint has been on a crusade to resurrect under-appreciated American roots-rock and power pop bands from out-of-print limbo, and this time we re bringing you both varieties rolled up into one band, The Rave-Ups! Led by frontman/lyricist Jimmer Podrasky, this Pittsburgh quartet fused the big ringing chords of power pop with the working-class concerns of roots-rock, and put enough classic rock references (Dylan, Hollies, Beatles, Turtles) into their songs to keep college radio record geeks happy. Despite periodic reunions, these 1988 and 1990 albums remain the last we ve heard from the Rave-Ups; they re some of the best recordings of their kind and era, timeless, classic rock n roll. Includes one of the great rock kiss-off anthems ever composed, 'Faint Sense of Success'. An American Beat exclusive!
