LIKE most Left-wing radicals, Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn is a hypocritical poseur
Yet he makes a complete mockery of that concern through his fanatical belief in mass immigration, which has done so much grievous damage to their interests.
It is Corbyn’s cherished open door approach that has shattered social solidarity, driven down living standards, fuelled job insecurity and imposed a completely intolerable burden on the civic infrastructure.
His dogmatic attachment to uncontrolled immigration was on display again last week. In a speech supporting the pro-EU Remain campaign, Corbyn declared that “I don’t think too many have come”, a remark that deserves to be treated with derision given that, even on the disputed official figures, 617,000 foreigners settled here in the past year, 257,000 of them from the EU.
But his enthusiasm for undiluted immigration is absolutely in tune with the mentality of the political establishment. Like the high priests of a brainwashing cult our politicians endlessly chant their mantras about the joys of multiculturalism and the economic benefits of immigration. All their propaganda, however, cannot disguise the reality that the fabric of British society is under unprecedented strain.
ONLY yesterday it was reported that there is a looming crisis over primary schools because of a shortfall of 10,000 places as a result of soaring numbers. The pressure on the NHS is just as great, with delays in A&E units at record levels, maternity services stretched and GP practices closing their registers to new patients. Rising levels of immigration from the developing world have also seen the return to Britain of diseases we thought had been eradicated, such as tuberculosis. Nearly 8,000 cases of TB were recorded in 2013, three quarters of them occurring among people born abroad.
It is the same story in other areas of our national life such as transport, where the growth in population has led to worsening congestion on the roads and railways. Similarly the demand for housing has pushed property prices to unaffordable levels while immigration is also deepening the homelessness problem: fewer than half of the rough sleepers in London are British-born and one-fifth of them are Romanian.
Ah, says the open border lobby, but our public services would collapse without the contribution of migrants. That is a spurious argument, very similar to the defeatist, self-loathing claim from the Remain camp that Britain is too weak to cope without the EU.
For centuries before the era of mass immigration and EU membership, we were one of the most successful nations on earth, the pioneer of the Industrial Revolution, the creator of parliamentary democracy and the victor in two world wars.
Long after its creation in 1948 the NHS functioned well without reliance on migrant labour. Nor can we pretend that the dependence on foreign staff serves the patients’ interests. A report published yesterday showed that 72 per cent of doctors struck off the medical register here are from overseas.
On a deeper level it is a fashionable myth, cultivated by the pro-EU, pro-diversity brigade, that all migrants come here to work. In fact, according to the Office for National Statistics, fewer than half of them arrive here for employment. Even the minority that take up jobs are often subsidised by our lavish welfare system, with working migrants estimated to be claiming £5billion a year in tax credits.
But huge numbers of migrants have no interest in work. Contrary to upbeat official rhetoric, levels of economic inactivity and welfare dependency are significantly higher in migrant communities than in the British population.
The absurdity of our soft touch system was highlighted at the weekend by revelations about the case of two fraudsters from Africa, Dennis Kyeyune and Lamulah Sekiziyuvu, who were part of a gang convicted in 2012 of a massive £4million benefits scam. Yet instead of being deported at the completion of their jail terms, they are now living at public expense in social housing in east London. In addition to their housing and council tax benefits, these two criminals receive £500 a month in support allowances because they claim to be “depressed”.
MASS immigration is damaging our social cohesion just as much as our economy. Shared allegiances are giving way to division. Nothing exemplifies that dangerous trend more than the separatist attitude of too many Muslims who reject our values. At its worst, this mentality has allowed jihadism to flourish in our midst, as shown by the relentless string of home-grown terror plots uncovered by security forces.
We will never regain control of immigration until we leave the EU. Retaining our membership is a recipe for more chaos, more burdens, more Islamification, especially once Turkey – with its Muslim population of 75 million – is accepted into the European Union as increasingly looks inevitable. At the end of last week, the European Parliament voted heavily in favour of making Turkish an official EU language, another indicator of Brussels’ contempt for our traditional civilisation.
Our only hope for national salvation lies in our exit.
I would like UK to leave EU and stop all Foreign Aid. I also believe anybody who has passed through safe lands like Turkey, Italy or Greece should not get asylum as they are just economic migrants. Africa also has plenty of safe lands so no Africans should ever be given asylum. Research from America shows those of African backgrounds commit 80 percent of all violent crimes. It is treason to let so many economic migrants, Africans and Muslims into the UK.
